Squamish Mountain Trails- Stawamus Chief
Stawamus Chief: Elevation at high point (North Peak) 665 meters (2175 feet).
Approximately 65 KM (40.4 miles) from Vancouver, British Columbia. Hiking time round trip- 3.5 to 4.5 hrs.
This is a very popular hike and can be done early in the spring. There are 3 peaks to choose from- South Peak,
Centre Peak and North Peak. Best time is usually March to November.
Centre Peak: Round trip roughly 9KM (5.6 miles). Elevation gain-590M (1929 feet). High Point-652 meters (2132 feet).
North Peak: Round trip roughly 11 KM (6.8 miles). Elevation gain-605M (1978 feet). High point-665 meters (2175 feet).
Directions: Drive north on highway 99 from Vancouver towards Squamish. Stawamus Chief is the large rock face just
south of Squamish. Roughly 1 KM (0.62 miles) past Shannon Falls there is the Stawamus Viewpoint parking lot on the right.
One can park in this lot or drive a short distance in from this lot on a side road to another parking area by the
campground entrance. Walk down the road going through the campground until it ends near a creek. The trail starts here up
a large rock that leads onto a wooden stairway that runs parallel to the creek. After the wooden stairway ends watch for
signs that will give directions to each of the peaks.
